This update is the start of an overhaul of crafting and items. Overall, it won’t be vastly different from what you’re used to. There are around 50 new items this patch, where most of them are intermediate items used to craft workshops or finished goods. Many recipes have had their ingredient quantities reduced but might require more steps to craft from scratch. Job completion times have also been increased across the board.
There is also a stricter progression of workshops now. In order to build a workshop, many require a specific item that is crafted in a different workshop. The first workshop that can be built is a Crude Workbench. This workshop works slower than others but doesn’t craft anything that can’t be crafted somewhere else. Once other workshops have been built, the Crude Workbench is safe to deconstruct.
When loading old save games, some jobs that are no longer valid will be cancelled. After loading a game, it would be a good idea to just check your workshops to see where you might need to recreate jobs. However, to get the full experience of the changes, I recommend starting a new game with this update.
With an update like this, I’ll be closely watching everyone’s feedback and expect to make some adjustments. Some things might be much harder or easier now and I’ll try to work out the kinks as quick as I can.
Head over to the forums for the rest of the patch notes.

You just a god. I don’t know if you are alone or with a team, but I follow your jobs since a half year now, and I’m just impressed by your colossal work.
Keep going, this is one of the best games I ever played.
Wow, two revolutionary updates in a row! I love your work man.
I don’t know what you have planned but I do have a couple of bits of feedback.
1: Seems that bonecarving should have it’s own skill. Maybe under misc crafts? By default it could be a Rancher or Jeweler job. Also, if fishing is something that is to be introduced then bone carving would be a great option to make hooks (although metal hooks should exist too). Other things bone could be used for would be jewelery and advanced leather armor. If butchering Yak produced horns they would make fine statues I think.
Another note on fishing; the hooks should be used like seeds I think. Instead of a Gnome having their fishing pole and hook and fishing forever they should have to use a hook each time they go fishing. Maybe give them a tackle bag/pouch/box to carry a few hooks in or something. Would be a great way to use all those extra bones that clutter my misc item storage.
2: Clothes. This would make the tailor feel a lot more useful I think. Gnomads could show up wearing basic clothing but as the tailor makes better garmets the Gnomes could swap out for nicer peices. The nicer the clothing the more content the Gnome. Also, better than average clothing could convey a small bit of armor maybe. And again, this would be a great way to use some of that plant fiber that just sits in the field because it can’t be used any where.
3: Merchants. I know this is one of the issues you plan on working on soon, but I just can’t wait! I have a couple of maps that I’ve made it into year 4 and I have literally thousands of items that I would like to trade but the merchants hardly ever have over 3k worth of items that I am interested in. By the time spring rolls around I have enough yak hides to trade for everything the spring merchant has to offer. Summer merchants are taken care of with pretty much just yak milk and seeds/clippings/cotton/bone/skulls. By the time the fall merchant shows up I have enough of all those things to clean him out too. That leaves the hundereds of statues and peices of jewelery that actually have value just sitting there doing nothing (except luring dozens of mants..).
I want to end by saying I understand these things take time and that you have put an amazing amount of effort into this. I appriciate that very much. What I have said here are just a couple of thoughts I have had, nothing special. Thanks again for the awesome game.
(also, I didn’t use spellcheck..)
When do you think we can get it on Steam? Can’t you just get it there for pre purchase with immediate access to beta like Don’t Starve?
Then I would not need to redownload it every time.
How do I build the workbench?
Workbench can be built from the right click menu -> Build -> Workshop -> Crude Workbench
Sorry to bring this up here, but is anyone else having trouble updating the game because my links that i got through email do not seem to be working. I have also tried going to use the back up link which takes me to the BMT Micro and asked for my product code and password but when i enter it it just stays in a constant loading screen.
I would appreciate some help, i really want to update my game please and thank you. Also keep up the good work RoboBob.
